Deep Reader · Updated: 10 October 2026

Deep Reader ("the app") is a graded English reading app. Our principle is simple: no account, no collection of your personal information, no ads and no behavioural tracking. Your learning data belongs to you.

1. What we do not collect

The app needs no sign-up or login. We do not collect your name, phone number, email, contacts or photos, and the developer never receives your location (see section 5). The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics components, and we run no server that receives your usage data.

2. Where your data is kept

Your reading history, word list, recitation records, vocabulary estimate and settings are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, this data syncs between your devices signed in to the same Apple ID through your own private iCloud database. That data is held by Apple and is not accessible to the developer. Books and articles you import are kept on your device or in the Deep Reader folder in iCloud Drive.

3. Microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is used only when you choose recite-from-memory and tap start. The app then uses Apple's speech recognition to turn what you say into text and compare it with the original. When your device supports it, recognition runs on the device; otherwise audio may be sent to Apple for recognition, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy. The app does not record, save or upload your voice. You can turn off microphone and speech recognition permissions in system settings at any time; other features are not affected.

4. Translation and read-aloud

Sentence and paragraph translation uses Apple's built-in translation. Read-aloud uses system voices and a voice model that ships with the app and runs on your device. None of this sends your text to us.

5. Location and weather

The widget can show local weather. Only if you allow location access does the app read your approximate location (about 1 km accuracy), and it uses it solely to ask Apple's weather service (WeatherKit) for the weather. Your location is not sent to the developer or stored on any server of ours. You can turn off location permission in system settings at any time; other features are not affected.

6. Importing web pages

When you paste a web link to import an article, the app requests the page directly from that website and extracts the text. The request goes to the site you named, not through our servers, and that site may see usual access information such as your network address.

7. Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions for Deep Reader Pro are handled by Apple. We never see your payment method, card or Apple ID details. We only learn through Apple's StoreKit whether Pro has been purchased, so that we can unlock the features.

8. Notifications

Review reminders and other notifications are scheduled and delivered locally by your device, without any push server. You can turn them off in system settings at any time.

9. Minors

Deep Reader is intended mainly for adult and teenage English learners and is recommended for ages 13 and up. It is not directed at children under 13. Users under 14 should use the app with the consent and guidance of a parent or guardian. The app requires no sign-up and the developer does not collect users' personal information; parents or guardians with questions can contact us using the details on this page.

10. Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes the local data on your device. If you use iCloud sync, the cloud copy can be removed in Settings › Apple ID › iCloud › Manage Storage › Deep Reader.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date on this page and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
